Update your Insteon Hub on a cron

by on Jan.29, 2014, under Uncategorized

If you have an Insteon Hub, then may be aware that the internal clock suffers from a little bit of drift. Much less that the Insteon SmartLinc, but it’s still there. To combat this, I have a cron job that runs on a local Linux host that updates the Hub’s clock nightly. It’s pretty simple, and it goes like this …

#!/bin/bash
HUB_ADDR="192.168.x.x:25105"
HUB_USER="xxxxxxxx"
HUB_PASS="xxxxxxxx"
curl -X POST http://${HUB_USER}:${HUB_PASS}@${HUB_ADDR}/1?TD=$(date +%H:%M)=1=falsefalse

To locate the IP address, username, and password for the Hub, open up the settings in the INSTEON mobile app and reference the “House” section.

I have it running every day at 5 minutes after midnight. Enjoy.
